3 tips for not ruining your progress while on vacation

What is the first most important thing when you’re on vacation?

Second most important… sticking to a modified weight loss plan so that you can maintain the progress you have worked so hard to achieve.

When you go on vacay and fall completely off track you feel like SHIT when all is said and done – physically and mentally.

Now, this does NOT mean that you have to be super strict and skip having fun in the name of staying on track. This means that you should have a MODIFIED plan to help you find the balance.

You may eat a little more than normal, drink a little more than normal, and you may hit the gym a little less… but guess what? THAT IS OKAY!

I am the kind of coach that 100% believes in enjoying your life and making your weight loss plan fit your lifestyle. So, with that being said… how do you manage to not ruin your progress on vacation?

Here are my top 3 tips:

1. get active outside of the gym – I love to go hiking, swimming, walking, etc. when I am on vacation. This is a great way to see the area you’re exploring and to burn some calories – not to mention, it is fun! Another great way to get a quick workout in is to take a resistance band and hit it before your day starts. Even if you only dedicate 15 minutes before breakfast to a quick workout – it is better than no workout!

2. BYOS (Bring Your Own Snacks) – As soon as I get to where I am going I hit the grocery store (or I bring snacks from home). This is much more cost efficient and much more healthy than eating out for 6 meals a day (or worse… skipping meals!) My go to snacks are Level-1 protein bars, dried fruit, greek yogurt, Kashi bars, nuts, and fresh fruit (bananas and apples are easy)

3. stick to your macros as much as you can – track your food while you are away. My suggestion is to track around 75% of the time. General rule: if it fits your macros, enjoy it! This is the most simple way to have food freedom, to eat what you want, but to not overdo it so that you end up gaining weight. Oh.. and yes, alcohol counts toward your macros!

Weight loss in general is much more efficient and easy when you have a professional coach to help you, support you, and guide you. To have someone to lean on when you are out of your comfort zone (like being on vacay!) is arguably more important to help you stay on track and to keep you accountable.

If you need someone to help, support, and guide you and to help hold you accountable, Gem Fitness is here for you!
